Lumber Around the Leveee 6.5 Mile Trail Run and Walk
December 5, 2015 9AM
Join Off The Grid Racing for our first ever Lumber Around the Levee on December 5. Lumber Around the Levee takes place in the recently opened Barr Hammock Preserve which was acquired via the Alachua County Forever land acquisition program in 2006 and 2010.
Barr Hammock is a “land bridge” that connects two of the largest wetlands in the county - Ledwith Prairie and Levy Prairie. This unique upland helps create a wildlife corridor that connects the Ocala National Forest to Goethe State Forest.
Racers will journey for 6.5 miles along elevated levees providing a spectacular view of the expansive wetland. The sounds of frogs and birds will accompany participants as they race through loblolly pines, red cedar, and oaks strung with Spanish Moss. Runners might see deer, sandhill cranes and the Southern Bald Eagle. Plus, alligators! Hopefully you see them first!
Register and come experience native Florida the way it once was.
