The courses follow forest trails that have long, mostly level stretches with some steep hills, which are tempered by switchbacks. Trails are flagged at frequent intervals with bright ribbon and are cleared before the race to ensure they are mostly free of natural debris.
Directions:
To prevent navigation issues, it is recommended that all routes approach the forest from SR 37.
If coming from the North, Driving South:
From SR 37, you will turn east (left) on Pine Blvd. (There will be a small brown sign on your right before the turn that says "Morgan Monroe State Forest") (Note: If you navigate to Morgan Monroe State Forest using Maps on your phone, it will tell you to turn left onto Godsey Road, do not do this. Continue past Godsey Road for 2 miles and take a left on Pine Blvd)
After turning east on Pine Blvd., travel about 6/10ths of a mile, and you will come to a stop sign, and merge into another road (a slight right-forward). After another 2 miles, you’ll come to a 3-way intersection with a big sign in the middle, “Morgan Monroe State Forest”. Veer LEFT at this intersection. As soon as you veer left, keep straight ahead on the main road. You’ll immediately see yet another road going down to the left, called Hacker’s Creek Road. Do not take that road, but continue straight ahead. This is “Main Forest Road”. You keep traveling on the Main Forest Road for another 2.5 miles. The shelter will be on your right at the intersection of the Main Forest Road with Bean Blossom Road.
If coming from the South, driving North:
From SR 37, you will turn east (right) on Pine Blvd. (There will be a small brown sign on your right before the turn that says "Morgan Monroe State Forest") (14 miles north of 3rd Street Exit in Bloomington.) (Note: If you navigate to Morgan Monroe State Forest using Maps on your phone, it will tell you to turn right on Old Sr 37 S, do not do this. You will be turning 4 miles before this onto Pine Blvd.)
