Calvin Classic 5K and Youth Fun Run

Please note: there is also a small processing fee for each race (price varies from $3 to $2). Sorry, no refunds or transfers. If it's decided that an in-person race is not a possibility, we will transfer in-person race registrations to the virtual race option. In case of severe weather; local, state or national emergency; matters of public health safety; race directors reserve the right to cancel the race without refund. 

8:30 a.m.
The USATF certified 5K course runs through Calvin's scenic, relatively flat college campus. The 5K race will begin with the handcycle racers starting just before the runners, and walkers starting just behind the runners. Strollers are welcome, but must stay at the back of the race. Bicycles, rollerblades, skateboards and animals are not allowed on the course. All participants must be registered and have a race number to participate. Note: If it's decided that an in-person race is not a possibility, we will transfer registrations to the virtual race option. 

Compete from anywhere in the world! Register by September 12 to receive a Calvin Classic 5K shirt, bib, and Calvin sticker in the mail the week of September 26th and participate in your race gear. Share a photo or video of yourself in your race day shirt and bib on social media using the hashtags #CalvinClassic5K and #CalvinHomecoming2022 by October 1 to be eligible to win a number of prizes! Early-bird pricing is available through September 12 and registration closes October 1.

Note: if you register after September 12, your race shirt, bib, and sticker will be mailed after the race deadline (October 1).   

9:30 a.m.
The Fun Run is for children ages 3-9. Race starts and ends at the Start/Finish line (Knollcrest Dining Hall).

Races are divided by age groups. Distances range from 100 yards to a half mile.
Youth participants will receive a short-sleeved t-shirt and finisher ribbon. 
$10 per child + processing fee. 
Parents may accompany very young children (no registration needed for parents)

The Virtual Youth Fun Run is perfect for children ages 3-9. Encourage your kids to walk or run anywhere from 100 yards to a quarter-mile (or whatever distance they are most comfortable with). Youth participants will receive a t-shirt, finisher ribbon, and Calvin sticker.

Compete from anywhere by October 2! Register by September 12 to receive a Calvin Classic 5K shirt, bib, and Calvin sticker in the mail the week of September 27th and participate in your race gear. Make it fun for your child and tag us in your race day photos or videos (by October 1) by using the hashtags #CalvinClassicYouthFunRun and #CalvinHomecoming2022 to be eligible to win a number of prizes! Registrations received after September 16 will be mailed race gear after the day of the race deadline (October 1). 

Some ideas:

• set-up "official" start and finish lines
• decorate the course with fun handmade items
• cheer them on loudly!

8:29 a.m.
Handcycle racers will start just before runners. Handcycle racers must yield to runners in the event that the runners catch up with handcycle racers. Handcyclists, please use the Lake Drive or Burton Street entrances when entering the campus. Handcyclists may park in the circle drive in front of Hoogenboom Gym.

In-Person Races: Register by September 12 to be guaranteed your shirt size will be available to you on race day. Registrations received between September 13 and October 1 will be given  race shirts on a first come, first serve basis during packet pick-up hours (Friday 3:30-6pm, Saturday 7a-8:25am.  Location is Spoelhof Fieldhouse Lobby) 

Virtual Races: Register by September 12 to receive your race materials prior to "race day" and participate in your race shirt the week of Calvin's Homecoming and Family Week (September 27 - October 1). Virtual Race registrations received between September 13 and October 1 will be mailed race shirts, bibs, ribbons, and stickers after October 1, 2022. If you would prefer to pick-up your shirt, please email alumni@calvin.edu to set-up a pick-up time the week of September 27, 2022. We ask that all on-campus participants (staff, faculty, and students) schedule a pick-up time.

Each participant will receive only one race shirt. Shirts are youth and unisex (men's) sizes.

Interested in helping instead? We'd love your help! Volunteer for Friday shirt pick-up or Saturday morning race day. 

Calvin faculty, student employees and staff, here is your chance to build departmental pride and a sense of team spirit, while competing for a prize! Build a team of four or more colleagues. Teams must consist of at least three Calvin faculty or staff and can include department student workers and immediate household family members. Registrations must be received by September 12, 2022, to count toward the President's Challenge.

The team with the lowest score (determined by cross country scoring) wins $250 and recognition at the awards ceremony!
