Welcome to the Atkins 5k – Stop Soldier Suicide. On October 22, 2015, SSG Steven Atkins became one of the 22 veterans who we lose to suicide each day. Steven was only 30 years old. He was serving this great nation as a National Guard Recruiter in Macon, Missouri. Steven left behind four young children.
Penny Sloan, who is the spouse of one of Steven's fellow soldiers, was watching how Steven's loss affected her husband and all of his brothers in arms and wanted to do something to assist Steven's four young sons.
This 5k is to honor the memory of Steven and raise funds that will provide for his children's future. The years to follow the proceeds will go to help stop soldier suicide.
We are honored to have partnered with Team Fidelis to assist with this wonderful event. Team Fidelis is capable of amazing things and this 5k goes directly to the heart of WHO THEY ARE and WHAT THEY DO. Their mission is, “To end the epidemic of veteran suicides by raising awareness, providing a bridge of hope, and building camaraderie between veterans and their community.”
