We're honored to be assisting Ashleigh, a local high school senior who is organizing this run/walk event to raise awareness and money to fight lung cancer. The affects of this disease have hit close to home as Ashleigh's Aunt Luli has been diagnosed and is battling lung cancer. Funds raised will benefit OHSU's Lung Cancer Institute.
Lung cancer is the leading cancer killer in both men and women in the United States. In 1987, it surpassed breast cancer to become the leading cause of cancer deaths in women. Lung cancer causes more deaths than colorectal, breast and prostate cancers combined. An estimated 158,040 Americans are expected to die from lung cancer in 2015, accounting for approximately 27 percent of all cancer deaths.
