Check out our facebook page at "I Heart Africa 2nd Annual 5k Run/Walk and 10k Run" Enjoy a fun-filled morning in beautiful Eleanor, WV as we get together to support the work of The 1040 Initiative. 1040 I is a nongovernment charitable organization established to provide essential aide to the impoverished people groups of Africa. Our focus is on three basic human needs--Health, Water, and Education. Each year we send teams of American volunteers into some of the most remote places on earth to help with the building of schools, provision of school supplies, building of water wells, and provision of water filters for clean drinking water. In addition, we send teams of doctors and nurses to provide surgical care to people who would otherwise have no hope of healing. The results are nothing short of miraculous. This fundraising event is one of the ways we enable our teams with the resources they need to accomplish these goals. This will be our second annual event . The first last year was a great success, and we are looking forward to an even bigger and better event this year. The town of Eleanor is very hospitable and is a wonderful place for a 5k/10k run course. The course is mostly flat, and is comprised of mostly quiet side streets, with no major road crossings. Friendly volunteers will be at every turn for guidance. Instead of the usual trophies and medals, category winners will receive authentic hand carved souvenirs made by native Ivorians straight from the country of Ivory Coast, Africa.
